continuing christmas whilst in a funk

I have been little Miss Moody today. A big grey cloud is surrounding me. It might (hmm - does) have something to do with those blooming Morris fabrics. Too much brown. I need some colour.

Still, not everyone has my impeccable and flawless taste in fabrics, do they, Mother? Some people like those less in your face colours of falling Autumn leaves, don't they, Mother? Some people weren't keen on the giddy cheerfulness of wonderland, were they, Mother? Some people wanted Morris Workshop, didn't they, Mother?

Well, Morris Workshop is what she chose, and Morris Workshop is what she's got. And whilst it's not to my taste, it will look just perfect in my parent's bedroom. And they'll love it. And that's all that matters.

In a panic I realised there was no way I was going to be able to quilt the pattern I'd wanted to make (too big), and if I wanted to get it sent out for quilting it would have to be done super fast. I scrapped the original plan and have gone for the ever faithful turning twenty. But a little bigger, so it'll still end up around 7.25 feet square. I'll drop it off with the quilter next week, and pick it up mid-December. Just in time for Christmas.

I cut out the fabrics, after starching and pressing them, sewed the blocks and the rows up, I just need to sew the things together now and then I can rid myself of the grey cloud. Maybe I should leave it for the day and do a spiderweb instead.

In fact, let's just look at one.

Oh, can you feel the grey cloud lifting?

*sigh* that's better.

Persevere, my dear! It may not be your taste but it is very tasteful. We can't argue with the Morris Workshop. It will all be over soon. Go make a spiderweb now.

Those spidey webs are cheerful, and I'm sure looking at a little fmf was just the tonic you needed. I can't get excited by drab, autumn tones, ick! Give me vivid, vibrant, bold and brilliant colour! :-)

I hate, hate, HATE making something to someone else's specifications - I've just completed a quilt for a family member who wanted a palette of dark brown, stone, *milky coffee* (what...?)and duck egg blue. Yawn. I begrudged every minute I worked on it. Why didn't they just go to Matalan/Dunelm/on the market, and BUY one...aarrrggghhhh. Sorry, I'm venting...

I happen to be working on a quilt with brown and blue and it isn't depressing at all. I think it depends on the fabric design as well and I added a bit of orange too. see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/chezbunny/3968696348/
The spiderweb block looks great btw!

Just a thimbleful....

You will be making Mother very happy, and that is all that matters! You can lose yourself in the rainbow next time.

No wonder you were little Miss Moody today - all that brown is enough to make anyone moody! What you need is a nice little koala & owl fabric panel!! Still it's good to be able to work to a brief and know that the customer will love it...isn't that the sign of a truly gifted (you) quilter?

Hmmm, maybe Morris but in reds and purples and pinks!

Nothing wrong with Morris, his stuff has just been overdone and made more 'tasteful', i.e. bland than it ought to be.

I love autumn tones tho', fiery reds, blazing yellow-gold, wot's not to like there. The more drab tones are more winter than autumn... not that I'm biased or nuffink, 'hem, 'hem.

I suggest you make their quilt while sipping on a glass of Chateauneuf du Pape, a fabulous dark red!

I have to admit to liking William Morris, and *ahem* have a few small pieces. But (and that's a big but), I wasn't about to do a whole quilt with it!! Way too bland. I thought about mixing it with something a bit funky and black.

So funny Katy! I'd be feeling the same if I had to play with autumn fabrics when spiderswebs were calling! They are just so HAPPY!!! And I have to say that I absolutely LOVE that handwriting fabric - wherever did you find it? Fabric with writing on is my greatest weakness!

I can't wait to clear some other stuff so I can get to these webs. Chin up my friend, it must be getting close to beer-thirty there?
